Folk In A Box is a unique one-on-one music venue and performance space, designed by
architects David Knight and Cristina Monterio and the brainchild of musician Dom Coyote. The flat-pack wooden box with its little front door looks like a whitewashed confessional. Its appearance of spirituality seemingly no coincidence, once inside it proves to be an intense, profound experience. After crouching down to enter the small, Alice In Wonderland-like doorway you enter a pitch-black space and sit down. A voice from within the darkness asks you simply if you’d like to hear a happy song or a sad song and, without the distraction of eye contact, you are free to let your emotions take you.
Folk In A Box has travelled far and wide, including the Venice Biennale, SouthBank Centre and Tate Britain.
